Hospital Offering Flu Vaccines This Week
Palomar Health is offering flu vaccine clinics at these times and locations next week throughout the North County area:

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 4 to 6 p.m., Palomar Medical Center, 2185 Citracado Parkway, Escondido.

Wednesday, Dec. 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Julian Library, 1850 Highway 78, Julian.

Thursday, Dec. 12, 6 to 7 p.m., Interfaith Emergency Shelter, 550 W. Washington Ave., Escondido.

Friday, Dec. 13, noon to 2 p.m., Palomar Health Downtown Campus, 555 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido.

Saturday, Dec. 14, 8 to 11 a.m., St. Stephen Catholic Church, 31020 Cole Grade Road, Valley Center.
Anyone 6 months or older will benefit from the flu shot, but it is highly recommended that the following persons get vaccinated, as they are at a higher right of flu complications, according to the Centers for Disease Control:

anyone ages 50 or older;
-
anyone who has heart disease, lung disease (asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis), diabetes, HIV, blood disorders, kidney disease or those with weakened immune systems;

children ages 6 months and older;
-
pregnant women;
-
those who live in nursing homes or assisted living facilities;
-
those who have health problems that make it difficult to breathe or swallow;
-
and health-care providers/caregivers who live with or care for anyone listed above.
Nurses will provide the influenza vaccine by injection to ages 9 and older for the cost is $20 per person, payable by cash or check. Medicare will be accepted for those who qualify. Participants must bring their Medicare and supplemental insurance cards and photo ID.
The hospital's annual community flu shot program will continue through Jan. 4.
