Controversial La Jolla project OK'd

San Diego City Council members approved a three-story mixed-use project in La Jolla Shores on Monday despite objections raised by dozens of community leaders. Residents and members of local planning organizations called the project a dangerous precedent that would damage the character of the upscale enclave and make it less appealing as a restaurant and shopping area. They said the project, located on Avenida de la Playa, would be too “urban” in appearance and could make La Jolla Shores look more like Mission Valley if it prompts nearby property owners to pursue similarly dense developments.
